What is capnography and why is it important?
Capnography is the measurement of the concentration of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the exhaled breath. By tracking CO2 in a patient’s exhaled breath, capnography enables paramedics to objectively evaluate a patient’s ventilatory status (and indirectly their circulation and metabolic status). This information can be paired with a paramedic’s clinical judgment to assess and more effectively treat their patients.
